The 3M Worker Health and Safety Awareness Program recognizes the importance of early education in workplace health and safety. The types of health and safety hazards facing workers can be wide ranging and complex. Some hazards can immediately impact their life, while others may go unnoticed until years later. Millions of people across the world are injured or killed on the job each year and newly hired workers can be more at risk than more experienced workers. This educational program is intended for students enrolled in skilled trade programs. The goal is to increase their knowledge of (1) basic workplace health and safety principles (2) certain types of hazards they may encounter at work and how those hazards may affect them and (3) examples of personal protective equipment (PPE) they may use to help them do their jobs safely. The program covers an introduction to 3 topics: Respiratory hazards, Hearing hazards, and Head, eye and face hazards. Within each topic students will participate in lecture and hands on practical labs.
